My Thoughts On The Shakti Mat

I purchased a level 2 (6,000 spikes) Shakti brand mat about a month ago and have used it every day, sometimes twice a day, for a minimum of 10 minutes each time. I have a reasonably high pain tolerance so I didn’t find it painful or uncomfortable the first time I laid on it, rather I felt an interesting sensation that quickly turned into warmth. I tend to hold a lot of tension in my upper back and neck, and I was impressed by how well it melted the tension after just 20 minutes. Was it gone? No, but it was much improved and on top of that I felt super relaxed. 

While I will occasionally use the mat during savasana at the end of my yoga practice, I always lay on it for 20-40 minutes while reading or meditating as part of my bedtime routine. Not only does it ease tension in my body, but it also calms my mind and makes me very sleepy. My sleep tracker even shows that I am getting much deeper, and more restful sleep.
